Summary and responsibilities

Role overview

Summary

This role seeks a Vice President & General Manager to lead and expand the Wildlife Services business. The successful candidate will own the P&L, drive business growth, and oversee operational delivery, while maintaining strong scientific credibility in wildlife management.

The opportunity

We are looking for a Vice President & General Manager to run and grow our Wildlife Services business. This is a builder's role. You will own the P&L for our commercial services line, lead its delivery, and grow it into a larger, more scalable business, leading a multidisciplinary team of roughly 25 biologists, technicians, and project managers.

This is a business-operator role that still demands real scientific credibility. We need someone who has run a services business and knows how to win and price work, manage margin, and build a team, and who genuinely understands the science behind our work rather than being a business-development generalist. Much of our work today serves federal, state, and local government agencies and NGOs, and a top priority for this role is to broaden that client base and expand into new fields of work. You will not be our chief scientist, and dedicated scientific and technical advisors have your back, but you will need a genuine scientific foundation to lead this team credibly.

What you'll do

  • Own the P&L for Wildlife Services, including revenue, margin, and profitability, and run the business day to day with a high degree of independence.

  • Grow the book of business: win new clients and contracts, broaden our client base beyond core government and NGO work, and expand into new geographies, service lines, and fields of work, with an emphasis on human-wildlife conflict and nonnative invasive species.

  • Lead proposals, pricing, service agreements, and pursuit decisions, including government contracts.

  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, safely, and to a high standard of quality.

  • Build, lead, and develop the team, scaling our field experts into a repeatable delivery organization.

  • Contribute to product ideation and commercialization (for example, the Pig Brig® Trap System), turning field insight into new revenue.

  • Represent Field Engine credibly with clients, agencies, landowners, and partners.

What you'll bring

  • A proven track record running and growing a services business with full P&L ownership (environmental, ecological, field, or comparable services).

  • Demonstrated business-development and revenue-growth results. You have built or meaningfully scaled a book of business.

  • Experience with government contracts (federal, state, or local) and working with NGOs is a strong plus.

  • Strong commercial fundamentals: pricing, margin management, contracting, and operations.

  • A scientific foundation and genuine understanding of the work: ideally an undergraduate degree in biology, wildlife, or ecology, paired with business training such as an MBA.

  • Real scientific credibility. You understand the science and methods behind what we do, not just how to sell it. A PhD is not required.

  • Genuine passion for conservation and humane, science-based wildlife management.

  • An entrepreneurial, independent operating style and the ability to build from the ground up.

  • Experience leading field teams and multi-site operations, and a willingness to travel and spend time in the field.
