The candidate requisite Field/Laboratory Scientist position will include assisting with field and lab operations conducted for the Nanuet, NY Environmental Measurements Data Acquisition Center. The applicant should have a minimum of 5 years’ experience conducting field surveys preferably as a crew chief or field biologist.
Primary tasks include:
Assisting in field work for environmental/biological projects such as water quality data collection, biological sampling efforts for macroinvertebrate and fish, and other data collection from boats and on land.
Setting and retrieving scientific gear such as nets and scientific instrumentation over the side of the boats, manholes bulkheads (etc.).
Conducting terrestrial surveys such as wildlife identifications, bird surveys, tree surveys or wetland delineations, requiring the ability to walk for long distances, and traverse uneven terrain for long field days throughout the year.
Experience collecting field data is essential, including the completion of field datasheets, field logs and chain-of-custody forms. Additional duties may include conducting site inspections for environmental compliance, working at hazardous waste sites, storm water inspections, data interpretation and analysis, survey planning and writing environmental reports. Other duties as assigned.
Other preferred experience includes:
Small to medium size boat operations, including trailering and launch/retrieval skills.
Experience identifying waterfowl and other birds of the northeast.
Local candidates are preferred.
Required Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent
Microsoft Office product experience
General background-related experience
