The Tutorial Trap

The biggest illusion in self-improvement right now is the "Tutorial Trap" the belief that completing a course or collecting a certification means you've actually learned the skill.

It’s incredibly satisfying to watch a 10-hour course, copy the instructor's code or steps verbatim, and watch everything work perfectly. It gives you a massive hit of dopamine. But the moment you close that tab, open a blank document, and try to build something from scratch on your own, you freeze.

True skill acquisition only happens when you step away from the structured curriculum and break things. It happens when you try to solve a messy, real-world problem, run into an unexpected error, and spend three hours troubleshooting it.

Certificates look great on a profile, but a portfolio of raw, imperfect projects you built by yourself will always beat a flawless certificate from a course where someone else did the thinking for you. Stop collecting badges and start building things you don't fully know how to finish yet.
